A man from Virginia is in Knox County Jail after allegedly attempting to kidnap his ex-girlfriend in Corbin.
Terry Wade Stewart, Jr., 25, of Jonesville, Va., reportedly found his ex-girlfriend, Randy Renee Beaty, sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked behind Corbin Preschool Tuesday evening, while her husband went inside her nearby mother-in-law’s house.
Stewart allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and drove Beaty to the parking lot of Reeve’s Law Office on Master Street.
In the parking lot, Sgt. Bill Rose said Stewart “said something to the effect of, he had two small bottles of turpentine that you could buy at a drug store or the first aid section, and said they were going to drink it.
“She told me she thought that he had a gun in his pocket,” Rose said. “We didn’t find one, he didn’t have one on him, but she described in pretty good detail a gun sticking out of his pocket, a side, cargo pocket. She was pretty shook up about the whole thing.
“She told me that she was able to kind of get him calmed down and said ‘I’ll meet you at McDonalds on Masters Street in 15 minutes; she needed to go back down to her mother-in-law’s house.”
Stewart allowed Beaty to return to her mother-in-law’s house in the car, while he got a ride to McDonald’s with an aunt.
But instead of meeting Stewart at McDonald’s, Beaty called police. Soon afterwards, Stewart was arrested without incident by Corbin Police Chief David Campbell while walking down Hancock Street after apparently leaving the McDonald’s on foot.
Police said Beaty had a prior restraining order against Stewart, which had likely expired.
