On Friday, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department responded to a complaint about 6:40 p.m. regarding a man taking a blue Ford Explorer without the owner’s permission.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene on Wyatt Road, four miles south of London, they found the Explorer traveling down the road. According to a Laurel County Sheriff’s Department press release, the vehicle came to a stop and the driver, David W. Wagoner, 31, of Lily, exited the vehicle without placing it in park. This caused the vehicle to roll and nearly forced Wagoner to be thrown down.
Wagoner, who appeared to be under the influence, said he was test driving the Explorer, which deputies discovered was not true.
According to the press release, Wagoner was then arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, first offense, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, first offense, possession of open alcoholic beverages container in a motor vehicle, and other traffic offenses.
Wagoner was also charged with failure to appear in court charges related to alcohol intoxication, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, terroristic threatening and fourth-degree assault.
Wagoner was taken to the Laurel County Detention Facility.
