NIBROC entertainment named

The rock band Styx will perform Friday during this year's NIBROC festival, according to Bruce Carpenter, director of the Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce.

The group is known for songs such as "Lady," "Mr. Roboto," and "Too Much Time on My Hands."

    BOSTON (AP) — Two explosions shattered the euphoria of the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, sending authorities out on the course to carry off the injured while the stragglers in the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton were rerouted away from the smoking site of the blasts.

    Competitors and race organizers were crying as they fled the chaos. Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for fatigued runners.

    Seven persons — a man, a woman and five children — perished Saturday morning in a house fire on Sam Parker Road in the Gray community in Knox County.
    As of Saturday afternoon, the names of those who died were not identified and have not been confirmed. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Mike Blevins.

    Initial reports indicate seven people may have died in the fire, including five children and two adults.

    The Whitley County School District has decided to close its schools district-wide for the remainder of the week. According to Regina Paul, director of public relations for the school district, the influenza outbreak has caused the closure. Schools are expected to reopen for classes Monday, March 4.
