Flu closes Whitley schools until Monday
The Whitley County School District has decided to close its schools district-wide for the remainder of the week. According to Regina Paul, director of public relations for the school district, the influenza outbreak has caused the closure. Schools are expected to reopen for classes Monday, March 4.

Police report they have arrested 30-year-old Amanda Rogers, of Jellico, Tenn., in connection with the bomb threat received at Williamsburg Plastics earlier Thursday.

Keeneland to build track near Corbin: Facility to be used for quarter horse racing

The Keeneland Association confirmed today that the Lexington-based racetrack will build a quarter horse racing track near Corbin.
The track will be operated as a joint venture between Keeneland and Full House Resorts of Nevada. The two will buy the Thunder Ridge track in Prestonsburg and move it to the Corbin area. -
BOIL WATER ADVISORY
MONDAY-JAN. 28, 2013 - A boil water advisory has been issued for all water customers around Exit 29 of I-75 in North Corbin, Adams Road, K.O.A. Campground Road, the Sandy Hills subdivision, the old American Greetings Plant and the Old N.C.R. Plant. According to the CIty Utilities Commission, there has been a break in the lines that service the area. A boil water advisory means drinking water should be boiled for short-range use at least three full minutes at a rolling boil. This will be in effect until further notice.

Man shot in Laurel County incident

A man was airlifted to a hospital after he was shot Wednesday in an incident that happened in Laurel County, according to the Kentucky State Police Post 11-London.
The man was shot by a woman who was in police custody as of late Wednesday and was being questioned.
No further details were being released as of press time. -
No serious injuries reported in Laurel school bus crash
Emergency rescuers are on the scene of a crash involving a school bus at the Tri-County Cineplex in Corbin.

Drug roundup
As of Friday afternoon, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office has made 21 arrests in a drug roundup that started early Friday morning. Those arrested were from London, Corbin and Lily.

Knox man shot, caretaker arrested for murder

A Knox County man died early Tuesday after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, according to Kentucky State Police Post 10-Harlan Public Affairs Officer Trooper Shane Jacobs.
The man's caretaker, Charlene Sue King, 49, of Barbourville, was arrested on a charge of murder. -
Earthquake felt in Eastern Kentucky

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake was felt across Eastern Kentucky Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Weather Service office at Jackson.
The epicenter of the weak earthquake, which occurred at 12:18 p.m., was eight miles west of Whitesburg. -
Fatal stabbing in Laurel County
A woman died overnight of stab wounds, and a suspect is in custody, according to Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.
