April is Redbud Month in Southern and Eastern Kentucky. In celebration of Redbud Month TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky (TOUR SEKY) has a new Redbud Month logo to help market and promote Redbud Month and related activities throughout Southern and Eastern Kentucky and the surrounding areas.
The Redbud Trails program is an initiative of Congressman Hal Rogers to encourage and promote tourism in our 47-county region. Since its creation in 2004, more than 400,000 Redbud trees and seedlings have been planted. An additional 40,000 saplings will be planted in 2010 by schools, non-profit organizations and community leaders.
TOUR SEKY will kick off Redbud Month April 1st with the “Blooming with Good Health” Awareness Walk. The free event will be held rain or shine from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kentucky’s Music Hall of Fame in Renfro Valley. The first 500 participants will receive free gifts including a tote bag, pedometer, walking stick, cookbook, redbud seedlings and a healthy lunch from the Mount Vernon Subway.
TOUR SEKY will host its first ever Redbud Motorcycle Ride April 10th. Registration is $10 for singles and $15 for doubles. Registration will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Train Depot in the Old Town Section of Berea. Riders will travel along the Wilderness Road National Scenic Byway, stopping in London and Barbourville. The ride will end at the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park in Middlesboro. At the end of the ride, participants will receive a free T-shirt and redbud seedlings. Riders will also be entered into a drawing for a $250 gift card.
