More than 100 people attended a special luncheon Sunday at First Baptist Church that celebrated two women who have given a total of about 75 years of service to the church.
The luncheon and the service that preceded it recognized the church’s pianist Ann Hacker and organist Gayle Majors, according to Lynne Huff, the church’s minister of music and worship.
Majors has played for the church for 25 years and Hacker has played for an estimated 50 years.
Huff said the major theme of the sermon was stewardship and it featured the first-time performance of an original anthem by an Alabama composer the church commissioned.
Special guest organist Donna Colegrove and First Baptist member and pianist Donna Davis provided the music during worship.
Huff said both Hacker and Majors have “selflessly” given to the church.
“It’s such a great example to see how dedicated they are and how they work every week,” Huff said.
