With more than a month before deadline, candidates are filing for upcoming 2012 primary elections.
Gary W. Barton filed his declaration to run for another six-year-term for Whitley County Circuit Court Clerk.
Barton filed as a Republican candidate last Wednesday with Whitley County Clerk Kay Schwartz’ office.
According to Schwartz, candidates who intend to file for primary elections must file by 4 p.m. Jan. 31 in her office.
According to Kentucky Court of Justice website canidates seeking to file for circuit court clerk must have taken a special clerk’s examination that was held in Lexington Dec. 3. A minimum score of 70 percent is required to qualify to seek the office of circuit clerk.
Schwartz said incumbent candidates are exempt from the examination and her office has not recieved notifications of examinations or any other filings for Whitley circuit court clerk.
