Times-Tribune Staff Report
The Corbin Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday two more acts in this year’s Nibroc lineup.
On Thursday, Aug. 13, Christian pop act 33 Miles will perform at 8 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Performing that same night at the main stage at Depot and Third streets will be the Classic Rock All Stars, featuring former members of hit-making groups from the days of classic rock.
The group consists of Jerry Corbetta, former lead singer, keyboardist and founder of Sugarloaf; Peter Rivera, former singer and drummer for Rare Earth; and Mike Pinera, former singer and guitarist for Iron Butterfly and The Blues Image.
The late Dennis Noda, who passed away May 19 and had played with Cannibal & The Headhunters, was the group’s bassist.
Besides the well-known “Green-Eyed Lady,” Sugarloaf found gold with “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call You.” After Sugarloaf, Corbetta released a solo album and co-authored the Grace Jones hit “On Your Knees.” He also co-produced Frankie Valli’s album “Heaven Above Me,” then was asked to join The Four Seasons for their 20th Anniversary Tour. He continued to write, perform and tour as a full member for four years.
Rivera, formerly with Rare Earth, recorded over 17 albums and had top ten hits with “Get Ready” and “I Just Want To Celebrate.”
Pinera performed with Iron Butterfly (known for “In A Gadda Da Vida”) and The Blues Image (known for “Ride Captain Ride.”)
The Classic Rock All Stars will be performing those well-known hits and more at Nibroc.
This year’s Christian concert during Nibroc will be with 33 Miles, a pop trio consisting of members Jason Barton (lead vocals), Chris Lockwood (guitar/vocals) and Collin Stoddard (keys/vocals).
The group released its self-titled debut less than two years ago and has since performed at more than two hundred churches nationwide and is a Gospel Music Association Dove Award nominee for New Artist of the Year.
