Fried catfish, new vendors and a pet show are among the attractions offered during this year’s Williamsburg Old Fashioned Trading Days.
The festival, which runs Thursday through Saturday, will offer arts and crafts exhibits, music and children’s activities.
Alvin Sharpe, director of Williamsburg Tourism, said the festival will likely be the “biggest, best Old Fashioned Trading Days we’ve probably had.”
“This makes our 27th year,” Sharpe said. “Of course, we’ve gotten awards form the state of Kentucky in the past as being one of the best festivals.”
Sharpe said some vendors will sell Kentucky Proud products and the Fraternal Order of Police will sell fried catfish.
Traditional Kentucky crafts, including woodcarving, will be featured.
The festival is an important fundraiser for local groups, Sharpe said.
“All of our vendors’ spaces are basically non-profit,” Sharpe said.
Festival goers are asked to leave their pets at home–unless they plan to enter the pet show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sharpe said.
A perennial favorite, the car show, will return Saturday. While several bands, both Bluegrass and gospel, will be featured during the festival, Sharpe said he’s heard good things about the Moron Brothers, who will perform at 5:30 p.m Thursday.
“I’ve heard that they have some of the funniest and best Bluegrass music you’ve heard,” Sharpe said.
Local talent will also perform and Sharpe said gospel music fans will want to take note of the performance by Jeff and Sheri Easter, from the Gaither Homecoming Sings, who take the stage at 7 p.m. Friday.
“It’s just a great event for everybody,” Sharpe said.
Organizers will begin to set up for the festival, which is held around the courthouse square, after 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sharpe said.
Exhibits can be viewed at the Old Whitley County Extension Office, across from city hall, beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday Bluegrass music starts at 4 p.m. Gospel music will be featured Friday and Saturday.
