Distinguished Elks officers from across the country, Mayor Willard McBurney, other city officials and residents gathered at the Tri-County Elks Lodge Friday. A dedication ceremony was held for the building on Main Street, which serves as home of Tri-County Elks Lodge 2826.
The Elks National President or Grand Exalted Ruler, Mike Smith, praised the local Elks for their dedication and hard work in the area.
“I see some very positive things happening here. Very exciting things. You have a lot to be proud of here in this community,” he said.
The Tri-County Elks dedication ceremony was a much-anticipated event for local members.
“We are very excited about this dedication,” said Donald Barton, Chaplain and building commissioner for the Elks.
Barton has overseen recent renovations of the building located at 207 North Main.
Member Donna Vance pointed out that Friday’s dedication ceremony was also a chance to celebrate the opening of the Tri-County Elks lodge Restaurant, which will be open for business starting this weekend.
“We’ll be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, starting at 4 p.m. And of course, the public is welcome to come enjoy some great food,” she said, and added “but the thing we are most excited about is what is being done in our community. In the last few months, over 10,000 dollars has been raised for local charities and youth organizations.”
The chapter opened in 2003, and members work to help raise funds for Veteran’s programs, charities, and local youth groups.
The Tri-County Elks raise money by holding monthly fundraisers.
Mayor Willard McBurney, who also spoke at the dedication ceremony, praised the Elks for their charitable work.
“I am very proud and very impressed with the work that is being done here. They have worked to help raise money for our youth organizations and teams. I am very proud to have the Tri-County Elks in the City of Corbin,” he said.
