CORBIN — By Jeff Noble / Staff Writer
Two signs, honoring Corbin Middle School teachers Brent Jackson and his wife Jenni Lou Jackson, were unveiled Friday during a ceremony at historic Edwards Gym.
One sign honors Jenni Lou as 2012 Kentucky Middle School Teacher of the Year, while the other one honors Brent as 2012 Kentucky Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year. The couple saw the signs as they came inside the gym, and were greeted by applause from students and faculty.
Brent said afterwards, “I’m a little taken back. It’s an unbelievable honor. I can’t describe it for me, my family and my school. The credit goes to the kids, a hundred percent.”
Jenni Lou was surprised as well, adding, “What an honor. It was something to win the award, but have a sign with my name on it, that’s an honor. It’s a very humbling experience.”
State Representative Jim Stewart, whose district includes all of Knox County, made the presentation to the Jacksons. A total of four signs — two on each end of U.S. 25E — will be placed at the Knox County line, and will stay there for a year.
