Corbin Public Library will likely close in early October for the move to its new location.
The library’s board was updated Thursday on the progress of the renovation to the former Vintage House Restaurant, 305 Roy Kidd Ave.
Fundraising was discussed, with board members reporting that several people have committed to donations that have yet to be received.
Board members talked about donors’ purchases of inscribed gold, silver and bronze leaves on the “Tree of Knowledge” that will be displayed on the new library’s wall.
Board members were encouraged to sell 10 leaves apiece.
The board reviewed a $32,917 estimate from contractor Kenneth Pennington for the library’s reading garden, which will be located outside the library and enclosed by a brick and iron fence.
The board had received a rough estimate of $20,000 for the reading garden. That amount was donated to the library by Corbin Tourism and Convention Commission.
The board plans to continue to seek estimates for the reading garden.
Ossoli Club First Vice President Gay Nell presented Brenda Huff, library director, with a book for the History Room at the library’s new location. The book is “Winning the Vote: The Triumph of the American Woman Suffrage Movement.”
