Program gives thanks for run/walk success

CORBIN — The staff of the Victims Services Program at Cumberland River Comprehensive Care would like to thank everyone who made our Second Annual Tri-County Conquer 5K Run/Walk a success. It  raised awareness about sexual assault as well as money. Approximately 100 people either participated or volunteered in the 5K.

We thank the following businesses for their contributions: Bingham Tire and Oil, Lowe’s Sporting Goods, University of the Cumberlands, Laurel Cookie Factory, Forest Lanes, Road ID, Froyoz’s, B&H Shoes, Mr. Gatti’s, Applebee’s, El Dorado’s (Corbin and Williamsburg), Bubby’s BBQ, Fiesta Mexicana, Tri-County Cineplex, Sonny’s BBQ, Mi Jalisco, Yamota, Walmart (Williamsburg, Corbin and Barbourville), Gym 1, Cracker Barrel, Rack Room Shoes, Canvas On Demand and Blessitt Jams and Jellies. We also would like to thank the First Baptist Church of Corbin for opening their facilities to the participants.  

We appreciate the traffic control assistance provided by Constable Ron Bowling and the Corbin Police Department. We also appreciate Rep. Regina Bunch and Corbin Police Detective Bill Rose, who supported our mission by participating in the awarding of medals.

We would not have been able to host the 5K without the wonderful support of our volunteers. Thank you very much for your help in making our Sexual Assault Awareness Month event a great success.

We are fortunate to live and work in a community where collaboration, concern for others and a willingness to help are highly valued. We hope to continue to work with you in the future. We appreciate your commitment to our agency and your commitment to end sexual violence.

  • Disturbing trend of hyperbole in media, politics

    There is a disturbing trend of absolute hyperbole on the part of news media and political speakers. What I’m talking about is the immediate use of top shelf words like “dictator,” “fascist,” “communist,” and this really has to stop.
