CORBIN — When it comes to Senator Jim Bunning’s stance on healthcare, I agree with him wholeheartedly.
When I enlisted in the Navy in 1950, one of the reasons my wife and I decided to make the Navy a career was the medical insurance we would be guaranteed the rest of our lives, for both of us.
During the sacrifices I made and the time I spent in the service — which was during the Korean War, Vietnam and during the Cold War — I had no idea that the state of our healthcare system would come to something like this.
I don’t want to medically insure everybody. I think others should earn it, the same way many of my fellow seniors have earned it.
People need to stand up for those who have committed their lives to the military — and then, after retirement, have pursued business careers to help the local economy.
If not, our service members’ health benefits will be diluted by an influx our current healthcare system cannot sustain.
I don’t believe in putting our country further in debt, and I support Jim Bunning’s recent stance against deficient spending.
