Safe beef comes from healthy cattle

CORBIN — As a member of the Whitley County Cattlemen’s Association and the beef community, which includes farmers and ranchers, veterinarians and nutritionists, we work hard every day to care for our cattle. We are honored to be stewards of our animals and therefore work daily to keep them safe, healthy and secure. We provide our animals with food and water; health care that prevents, controls and treats disease; and facilities and handling practices that promote safe and humane movement.

We believe that safe beef comes from healthy cattle. Programs proactively created by cattlemen for cattlemen assure the highest level of care for cattle raised in the United States. The Beef Quality Assurance Program (BQA) is one of these programs. It was created in 1987 and includes research, training and certification that helps farmers and ranchers provide the best care to their cattle. It is also important to note that all cattle begin and spend a large amount of their lives raised on pasture at a farm or ranch. Some cattle are then transitioned to a feedyard for approximately six months where they have ample room to move about, always have access to fresh water, and are fed a balanced diet.

  • Disturbing trend of hyperbole in media, politics

    There is a disturbing trend of absolute hyperbole on the part of news media and political speakers. What I’m talking about is the immediate use of top shelf words like “dictator,” “fascist,” “communist,” and this really has to stop.
