Corbin Band Boosters say thanks

CORBIN — The Corbin Band Boosters would like to publicly thank our community partners for all the support they give to the Corbin High School Band. We recognize that without their assistance our band program would not be as successful.

The Music Alumni Association helps obtain instruments both for the High School, Middle School and Beginning Bands at the Intermediate School.

They also help purchase trophies for the Cumberland Falls Marching Invitational Band Competition and provide other monetary support.

Other groups have contributed to our program by donating items. The Kiwanis Club of Corbin donated a nacho cheese machine and is used at every home ballgame. This machine keeps the cheese warm and then dispenses the proper amount making it faster when working the concession stand during games.

Most recently, Suzie and Greg Razmus and Tri-County Cineplex donated a magnificent popcorn machine. Now we can make a much larger quantity of popcorn so customers do not have to wait and can return to the stands to cheer for our teams. We are using the same oil as they use so our popcorn will taste like popcorn at the movies.

Snappy Tomato does a tremendous job helping us keep the pizza rolling during games as well. Their staff is courteous and helpful when ordering initially and respond quickly when we need additional pizza.

The Root Beer Stand donated money toward the purchase of a new drum major podium. This podium has rails so it is much safer for our drum major to direct students on the marching field. They have also donated food for the band during band camp and provide hot dogs and chili for the concession stand during our competition.

David’s Steakhouse provides the grill that we use during our competition.

Using the grill allows for more food choices for the spectators and participants.

We recognize our band could not possibly “be the best they can be” without our community sponsors large and small. We have had many other sponsors assist us in many ways throughout the year and appreciate all they have done to encourage and support our band.

We will be hosting the Cumberland Falls Marching Invitational at Campbell Field Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012. The first band will take the field at 4 p.m. and our Marching Redhounds will perform in exhibition at 7:45 p.m.

Come and watch the bands perform and see what is happening in the music program at our school and at other schools in our region.

We appreciate all of our community sponsors and say thank you to all!

Sincerely,

Dave Boyd, President Corbin Band Boosters

There is a disturbing trend of absolute hyperbole on the part of news media and political speakers. What I’m talking about is the immediate use of top shelf words like “dictator,” “fascist,” “communist,” and this really has to stop.

  • Who was the writer of the NIBROC letter?

Both local newspapers had letters to the Editor attributed to the “Southern Kentucky Chamber Of Commerce Board Of Directors.” I immediately remembered Abbot and Costello’s famous question in their 1942 Movie, “Who done it?”
