CORBIN — By Adam S. Sulfridge / Staff Writer
A Whitley County Grand Jury returned 32 indictments Monday, 17 of which were for failure to pay child support, and one ‘no true bill’ was also returned.
Among those indicted were four people arrested Feb. 20 for manufacturing meth along Kensee Hollow Road, which is located near the Kentucky-Tennessee state line. Those four were Ronald and Susan Overbay, Bradley Petrey, and Obie Stevens. Shonda Scalf, who was not arrested that night, was also indicted in connection to that alleged meth operation.
According to the grand jury report, they were indicted for manufacturing methamphetamine, fourth-degree controlled substance endangerment to a child, and second-degree persistent felony offender.
Four children were removed from the Overbays’ home after Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge and several deputies found suspected meth labs in the attic. All four children were reportedly under 13 years old.
On the night of the arrest, Hodge told WYMT-TV, “When I knocked on the door, the smell was already knocking me down.”
