Police Report - Sept. 12, 2012

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Wanted man arrested for theft

A Corbin man wanted in connection with a theft of more than $12,000 in lawn equipment has been arrested, according to Whitley County Constable Ron Bowling.

Joshua Fields was arrested at 12:45 a.m. Sunday after Bowling found him sleeping in a parked vehicle at Miller Park.

Bowling, who was patrolling the Barton Mill area, learned Fields was wanted on felony theft charges.

An arrest warrant was obtained by Corbin Police Officer Jeff Hill. Bowling arrested Fields, who is jailed at the Whitley County Detention Center.

Rock slide leads to crash

Northbound traffic on Interstate 75 was snarled late Sunday after a tractor trailer overturned when the driver swerved to avoid a rock slide that had spilled onto the interstate, according to Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Public Affairs Officer Steven Douglas.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. near the 24 mile marker as Wayne Perkinson, of Henderson, N.C., drove north in a 2009 International tractor trailer.

Douglas said the overturned tractor trailer caused lane closures for several hours.

Drugs and alcohol are not factors in the crash and Perkinson was wearing his seatbelt, Douglas said.

Officer Rob Mitchell continues the investigation. Assisting at the scene were Kentucky State Police Trooper Duane Foley, Oak Grove Fire Department and the Kentucky State Highway Department.
