A Saturday afternoon bike ride ended with a trip to the hospital for a boy after he collided with a car on Moore Hill.
The boy’s bicycle apparently hit the right front fender of a Toyota Corolla and the boy hit the windshield, shattering it.
Police and the driver said the boy came riding out of the woods along the road with little or no warning around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
“He came off the path,” Mark Rickett said. “I never even saw him. There were two others with him but they were down the road.”
Rickett, who was driving the car, said the impact threw the boy against the windshield, shattering it on the right side.
Kentucky State Police Trooper A. J. Bunch said the boy did not appear to be seriously injured. Police were not sure if the boy was wearing a helmet. His bicycle was left lying in the weeds along the road, about 30 feet behind the car. It did not appear to be seriously damaged.
Approaching the scene, there was little to indicate there was a path coming from the woods onto the road.
“Somewhere like that, you’d never expect someone to ride out of that,” Rickett said.
The boy was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center for treatment, Bunch said.
The boy’s identity and condition were not available at press time.
