A London woman was taken to the hospital for X-rays after a wreck on Interstate 75 Wednesday, but family members told police she’d avoided serious injury, Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Glenn Reed said Thursday.
According to witness statements, the accident, at about 9:30 a.m., occurred as a vehicle driven by Ramona Woodbury, of London, crossed from southbound lanes across the median to northbound Interstate 75 at mile marker 32. A tractor trailer operated by Jessie Williams of Clarksburg, W. Va then struck the rear of Woodbury’s truck and knocked it into the wooded area off the left shoulder.
“It folded the truck in half so they couldn’t open the door,” Reed said. “The tractor trailer stopped on the left shoulder.”
Woodbury had to be extricated from the vehicle, Reed said. One lane of traffic was blocked and cleanup took about two hours.
No charges were filed, though an improper turn was listed as a contributing factor in the accident. No alcohol or drugs were involved, and all parties were wearing seat belts. Woodbury was taking some medication but it was not a factor in the incident, Reed said.
Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, West Knox Volunteer Fire Department and the London-Laurel Co. Rescue Squad also assisted at the scene.
