Times-Tribune Staff Report
An Ohio man is dead after being involved in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in Laurel County Thursday evening.
The wreck occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the southbound lane on Interstate 75 near mile marker 30.
The driver of a 2004 Honda motorcycle, 47-year-old Michael W. Hastings of Marysville, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Brenda Hastings, was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment.
Kentucky State Police Traffic Crash Reconstructionist and Trooper First Class Parrish Baker determined that the Hastings were traveling southbound on Interstate 75 when the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a guardrail, ejecting both the operator and his passenger.
Both of the Hastings were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
A cause of the crash was not released.
Baker is continuing the investigation and was assisted by officers from the KSP, Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement and the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. Also assisting at the scene were Laurel County EMS, the London/Laurel County Rescue Squad and the West Knox Fire Department.
