A Williamsburg man was killed in a construction accident Friday afternoon near the Kentucky Splash Water Park.
L.B. Ellis, 62, was working with a dump truck when he was trapped between the rear bed of his truck by an excavator operated by his business partner.
The men were doing work for a private land owner next to the Kentucky Splash Water Park.
Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley said Ellis' death was a tragic accident.
"He (Ellis) was working on the machine, and the other machine was working close by," Croley said. "... It was just a sheer accident. Unfortunately, when you work around machinery like that, you really can't hear if there is a warning. When you have both machines on, (there's) the noise of the dump truck and the noise of the excavator working."
Funeral services for Ellis are pending with Croley Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
