A South Laurel High School English teacher was killed Friday following a car crash on Kentucky 80 in London.
Teacher Camelia Jackson died after being transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center for her injuries.
Laurel County Sheriff Fred Yaden said the incident occurred at about 12:42 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Sinking Creek Road, also known as KY 1535, and Kentucky 80.
Yaden said Jackson was traveling north on KY 1535 when her vehicle was “T-boned” by a vehicle driven by Sandra Burns.
Jackson had a juvenile passenger who didn’t suffer life-threatening injuries in the accident, Yaden said. Jackson had to be extricated from the vehicle, and died “sometime later” according to Yaden.
Yaden said he doesn’t anticipate charging Burns with any crime.
Kentucky State Police accident re-constructionists were called to assist with the scene, Yaden said, and more details are expected to be released in the coming days.
Jackson had recently become a National Board Certified teacher at South Laurel High School.
According to an alumni magazine, she was a 1997 graduate of Cumberland College and had previously taught at Bell County High School.
