Suspected bank robber arrested

A Lexington man was arrested Monday for his part in the robbery of a Corbin bank earlier in the day.

The robbery occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hometown Bank on Master Street in Corbin. George Lyttle, of Lexington, formerly of Barbourville, was arrested several hours later at the Northfield Station Apartments in North Corbin.

As he was being taken into custody, Lyttle admitted to reporters that he did rob the bank.

"Yes I did (rob the bank), but I didn't successfully rob it, because here I am in handcuffs," he said. He told reporters he committed the crime, "because I'm hurting for money, my family's hurting for money. We're in a time that's getting ready to be a depression, and I was just wanting to be prepared."

He said he "never meant to even try to scare or hurt anybody."
