Man fleeing from meth lab arrested

By Samantha Swindler / Managing Editor

A man wanted out of Powell County for fleeing from a meth lab was arrested Monday in London after hiding from police in a field.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Don Trosper said 32-year-old Bobby W. Green was spotted by KSP Sergeant Steve Walker just after 10 a.m. Monday.

“Sgt. Walker got a tip that this guy had been staying at a residence out on KY 472,” Trosper said.

As he was headed to the house, Walker actually passed Green on the road.

Walker stopped the car, which was driven by an unnamed female driver, and verified that Green was the passenger.

“When Sgt. Walker stopped the car, he approached the passenger side where the gentleman was seated,” Trosper said. “The gentleman opened the door, and Sgt. Walker asked him to step out of the vehicle. As he came out of the vehicle, he shoved Sgt. Walker backwards and took off running.”

Walker chased Green to a field near the intersection of KY 472 and Hatcher Road and called for backup.

Within about 45 minutes, Trosper said, officers with the Kentucky State Police, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department and the London Police Department were on scene. Two canine units were brought out and quickly tracked Green, who had been crouched and hiding in the field.

Trooper Fred Pennington charged Green with second-degree fleeing or evading police and resisting arrest in Laurel County. He also charged Green on Powell County warrants for manufacturing methamphetamine and first-degree fleeing or evading police.
