At 3:10 p.m, National Weather Service indicated a tornado near Dixie, seven miles east of Williamsburg, moving southeast at 30 mph. A several thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted via Doppler radar near Gatliff, 11 miles southeast of Williamsburg, moving southeast at 25 mph. There have been numerous reports of funnel clouds in Williamsburg, including near the Whitley County Courthouse, and a wall cloud also in the same area. A tornado warning was extended until 4 p.m. for southeastern Whitley, extreme south central Knox and southwestern Bell counties.

Two vehicles explode in Lily community
About 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Misty Newby at her home on Copley Road off Echo Valley Road in the Lily community heard what she thought was an explosion outside near her home, she said.

Kentucky State Police observes Memorial Week
May 13-19, 2012 has been designated National Peace Officer’s Memorial Week.

The Whitley County Grand Jury returned 25 indictments on Monday. Most were related to drug and theft charges.

W’burg Tourism passes budget
The Williamsburg Tourism Commission discussed and passed its budget at Monday evening’s meeting. With revenue slightly up, the board also voted to hand out some funds for local groups and events.
