Corbin police arrest Woodbine bootlegger

A Woodbine man was arrested near Rotary Park Monday on illegal liquor sales charges.

Five Corbin police officers took Jimmy Edward Leger, 58, into custody on Hatfield Street.

Public Affairs Officer Lt. Rob Jones reported, with the help of a confidential informant, someone made a purchase of alcoholic beverages from Leger.

He said after the purchase, officers Tim Baker and Kirk Mays stopped Leger on Hatfield Street.

In the vehicle, the officers found 108 cans of beer, 10 one-fifth gallon containers of liquor and three one-half gallon containers of liquor.

Leger was arrested with no incident and taken to the Knox County Detention Center.

Also assisting in the arrest were Corporal Rob Hodge, Sgt. Glenn Taylor and Jones.

He was charged with illegally selling alcohol in a dry territory and illegally transporting or delivering alcoholic beverages in a dry territory.
