Gilliam acquitted of her husband's murder

Lisa Gilliam, the Laurel County woman accused of murdering her husband, London attorney Larry Gilliam in January 2011, was acquitted Friday afternoon at a pre-trial conference in Laurel Circuit Court.

The case will not be retried.

Special Judge Robert McGinnis, who was the judge in Gilliam's murder trial in September, said there was not enough evidence for another trial.

"The judge said, 'they could try her ten times, and I don't think that a jury will find her guilty," according to bench clerk Brandy Sprinkles.

The murder trial began September 17 and ran for three days, before the trial ended in a hung jury on Sept. 19.
