CORBIN —
Times-Tribune Staff Report
Tuesday morning at about 2:20 a.m., the southbound lane of I-75 was blocked about three hours, when a tractor-rig reportedly collided with a slower moving Ford van in south Whitley County.
The tractor-trailer, said Kentucky State Police Trooper Don Trosper, then ran into a guardrail and concrete bridge side rail and became engulfed in fire.
The 1988 Econoline van, driven by Donald E. Springman, 81, of Blandchester, Ohio, did not catch fire, Trosper said.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries but only Springman was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center.
The model 2000 International tractor-trailer was driven by Aleta L. Butts, 34, of Milledgeville, Ga.
Seatbelts were used and alcohol was not suspected to have been involved, Trosper said.
KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer Mike Hamblin is handling the investigation, said Trosper.
He was assisted at the scene by several other KSP CVE officers, Whitley sheriff’s deputies, the South Whitley Fire Department, Whitley Emergency Services and Depart for Emergency Management.
