Mayne found guilty of reckless homicide
By Becky Manley / Staff Writer
A Whitley County jury has recommended a 10-year prison sentence for a Corbin man who caused a 2008 crash that killed a Williamsburg couple.
The sentence recommendation came after a jury found Randall Mayne, 46, guilty of two counts of reckless homicide following a two-day trial last week in Whitley Circuit Court, according to the Whitley County Clerk’s Office.
The jury also found Mayne guilty of driving under the influence, which could add an additional 30 days to his sentence along with a $300 fine.
The 2008 crash happened after Mayne crossed the center line of Highway 26 and struck the southbound Jeep Cherokee of Alton and Doreen Wilson.
Alton Wilson, who was driving, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Doreen Wilson died nearly two weeks after the accident at the University of Kentucky hospital. At the scene, Mayne failed field sobriety tests, but registered no alcohol on a breathalyzer test.
During the trial, Kentucky State Police lab results were shared that showed Mayne had methadone and Valium in his system although he had no prescription for either drug, a court official said.
Alton Wilson, 63, of Williamsburg, was the owner of London Pharmacy.
Mayne will be sentenced at 9 a.m. March 16.
