Two injured in separate I-75 crashes

WHITLEY COUNTY — Two people were injured in two separate crashes Sunday after a rockslide on I-75 blocked the northbound lanes, according to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Tommy Justin, 47, and Kimberly Justin, 45, both of Barbourville, were traveling on the interstate just before 8 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle they were in collided with rocks and debris in the roadway. Kimberly Justin, the passenger in the vehicle, was taken by Whitley County EMS to Baptist Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Whitley County Chief Deputy K.Y. Fuson continues to investigate this crash.

The second crash involved Alpha R. Arnett, 51, of Charlotte, N.C. Once his vehicle hit the debris, it flipped over, coming to rest on its roof. Arnett suffered minor injuries in that crash. Sgt. Ken Shepherd worked this wreck.

The rockslide closed the northbound lanes of I-75 for nearly two hours.

“They got most of it cleaned up so the roadway is safe,” Harrell said.

Assisting at the scene was Kentucky State Police Trooper Duane Foley and the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department. The roadway was reopened at approximately 10 p.m.
