CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Bomb threat leads to evacuation of London store

A London woman was arrested Sunday in connection with two bomb threats, one of which led to the evacuation of a department store, according to London Police Chief Stewart Walker.

Peggy S. Baker, 51, was arrested after she was connected to bomb threats at London’s Walmart and the Laurel County Correctional Center.

London Laurel County 911 received the first call about 2:30 a.m. from a Walmart employee who said she had received a call and the caller claimed there was a bomb in the store that was set to detonate. Police responded, evacuated the building and searched it.

A little more than an hour later, the 911 center received the second call, which was from an employee at the Laurel County Correctional Center. The employee, who was crying, said someone had called with a bomb threat. The caller reportedly said there was a bomb at Walmart and underneath the jail.

During the investigation, officers were able to trace the caller’s phone information from both bomb threats. This information led to Baker’s arrest by Officer Ryan Jackson. Baker is charged with first- and third-degree terroristic threatening. The third-degree terroristic threatening charge stems from threats made by Baker against Jackson’s life.

Baker was jailed at the Laurel County Correctional Center.

No explosives were found at either location.

Assisting at the scene were Sgt. Eric Wilkerson, officers William Goins and William Jones as well as Kentucky State Police Trooper Tacket Wilson and his dog, Max. Assisting Jackson  with the arrest were officers Jeremy Shell and Eric Stallard.

The investigation continues by the London Police Department.

Perry M. Waddle, 48, is charged with flagrant non-support. He was arrested by Detective Brad Mitchell and Sheriff John Root about 10 a.m. at a home located eight miles west of London.

Waddle was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
