John Henry Sears and Alyssia Lynn Adkins, U.S. Postal Service employees, have been charged in separate indictments with embezzling mail.
Sears, who is scheduled for arraignment in U.S. District Court in London on Aug. 23, is charged on two counts.
The indictment alleges that in Laurel County on or around Oct. 5, 2009, he embezzled a parcel and its contents that was addressed to K.W.
The parcel, the indictment states, was “intended to be conveyed by mail, and carried and delivered by any carrier or other employee of the Postal Service.”
The second count charges that on the same date, Sears embezzled a parcel and its contents addressed to D.T.
Penalties for Sears could be up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Adkins, who worked at the Heidrick, Ky., Post Office, was also charged on two counts.
The first count charges that between Sept. 8, and Sept. 16, 2009, Adkins embezzled “a postal card or mail and its contents” intended to be conveyed by mail.
Count two alleges that between “a day in June 2009” through Sept. 30, 2009, she knowingly used and converted to her own use about $481.88, “which had come under her control in the execution of her employment.”
She is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 24.
Penalties for Adkins on count one could be up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine and on count two up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
