Man escapes Whitley Co. jail

Around 6 p.m. Saturday, staff at the Whitley County Detention Center discovered that Jason Harmon, 30, of Hwy. 1064 near Williamsburg, apparently escaped from the jail.

Local authorities were alerted to be on the lookout for Harmon. An employee at the jail indicated that by 11:15 that night, Harmon had been taken into custody by jailers and transported back to the detention center.

According to jail staff, Harmon’s initial charges include a Whitley County charge for first-degree criminal trespassing and a Knox County charge for violating parole.

The weekend jail staff said they did not know the circumstances of Harmon’s escape.
