Homeowner watches as thieves steal refrigerator, heaters from Laurel home

A homeowner watched Saturday as thieves stole items from her home including a refrigerator, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

Deputies were notified and a London man was arrested in connection with the theft.

The report of subjects in a red Dodge pickup at a home on Farris Jones Road was made before 11 a.m. and Deputies William Bo Harris and Sgt. Josh Gaylor responded. Once at the home, they found Ryan C. Setters, 21. They also found in the bed of the pickup truck a lock that had been cut off the door to the home, a set of bolt cutters, and stolen items from the home including the refrigerator, two kerosene heaters and two water heaters.

Root said a second suspect had fled on foot.

Setters was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespassing, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property under $500. He was jailed at the Laurel County Corrections Center.

The investigation continues.

Active meth labs found in car during traffic stop

Two Knox County residents were arrested Friday after police found two active methamphetamine labs and six ounces of the finished drug during a traffic stop, according to Knox County Sheriff John Pickard.

The traffic stop was made by Pickard and Deputy Keith Liford on a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by Jeff Brown and driven by Marsha Vaughn.

After police found the meth labs, finished drug and several items needed to make the drug, Brown and Vaughn were arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. They were jailed at Knox County Detention Center.

Assisting at the scene were Deputy Claude Hudson and Detective Bobby Oneil from the Two Rivers Drug Task Force.

Woman assaulted in home with stick

An East Bernstadt woman was arrested Friday after she forced her way into a home, drank vodka and beat a woman, according to Laurel County Sheriff John Root.

The assault happened after 11 p.m. on Love Road, located two miles north of London, when Rebecca Johnson, 29, forced her way into the home and drank half of a fifth of vodka. Root said Johnson then grabbed a large stick or a baseball bat and struck the victim on the ankle and wrist, causing a possible broken ankle and large knots on the victim’s arm.

The victim was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph-London hospital for treatment.

Johnson was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. She was jailed in the Laurel County Corrections Center.
