LAUREL COUNTY —
A robbery suspect being sought by the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department turned himself in Christmas Eve at the Knox County Correctional Center.
Christopher E. Disney, 33, of Gray, was held by Knox Deputy Roy Gambrel at the jail. He was transported back to London by Laurel Deputy Josh Scott, and there arrested by Laurel Sheriff’s Det. Daryl Zanet.
On Dec. 19, Disney allegedly entered the A & B Quick Stop off KY 3434 near East Bernstadt. Sheriff John Root said the man, armed with a semi-automatic pistol, robbed the unidentified male clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash.
The armed robber fled the scene in a dark-colored car.
The investigation led police to surveillance video taken by security cameras at the store. A picture of Disney was released in the hopes the public would lend a hand.
Root said a tip on Dec. 21 led Zanet, Gambrel and Chief Deputy Eddy Sizemore to a location near Sam Parker Road in Knox County.
There, deputies discovered the gun allegedly used in the robbery. The suspect was on the run, considered to be armed and dangerous.
He now faces first-degree robbery charges, and Root said other charges may be pending as Zanet continues his investigation.
He remains jailed at the Laurel County Detention Facility.
