Police Roundup - Jan. 8, 2012

CORBIN — Times-Tribune Staff Report

Foot chase leads to Laurel woman’s arrest

A London woman wanted on several outstanding warrants was arrested Saturday, but not before Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies had to catch her after a half-mile foot chase.

Adrienne L. Baker, 19, of London, was charged with fleeing and evading police on foot, resisting arrest, public intoxication-controlled substances and third-degree criminal mischief. The criminal mischief charge came from the foot chase when Deputy Robbie Grimes ruined an entire uniform — a shirt, trousers and shoes — chasing Baker through the rough terrain.

The arrest came last Saturday afternoon. Laurel County Sheriff John Root reported Grimes, along with C.S.O. Jamie Grimes, were dispatched to a domestic complaint in western Laurel County. While they were headed to the scene, the deputies received word that there were some outstanding warrants on Baker. When the deputies arrived, Baker fled into a wooded area behind the house.

The deputies chased Baker for about a half-mile over the rough terrain, crossing four sets of barbed wire fences, a large creek, and a briar thicket before she was caught.

The outstanding charges Baker was wanted on include a Laurel District Court bench warrant for theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property (taking property from an individual unlawfully and pawning it), a Laurel District Court bench warrant for possession of marijuana, and theft by unlawful taking, by failure to comply with a court order to take a drug test on three different dates, along with missing a required office visit.

She was arrested and jailed in the Laurel County Detention Facility. She faces charges of driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of a minor.
