Two arrested in Corbin for meth making

A traffic stop Thursday on Master Street in Corbin led to the arrest of two Bell Countians on drug charges, including the manufacture of meth.

Tommy Smith, 40, of Arjay, and Brittanie Akers, 22, of Pineville, were arrested by Corbin Police. The two were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, first offense; unlawful possession of methamphetamine, precursor first; second-degree possession of a controlled substance, having a prescription controlled substance not in the original container, and various traffic offenses.

Both Akers and Smith were jailed at the Knox County Detention Center in Barbourville.

According to Major Rob Jones of the Corbin Police Department, Patrolman Jeff Hill stopped a 1994 Lincoln Mark VIII, driven by Smith on Master Street. Both Smith and Akers, who was a passenger in the car, had a one-step meth lab in the car and the necessary ingredients to manufacture methamphetamine, but the one-step meth lab was not in production at the time.

They also reported Smith had a hydrocodone pill in his possession at the time of the stop. Akers told police the pair were out buying Sudafed pills and were intending to manufacture more meth.

Captain Coy Wilson and Sgt. Jason Moore assisted in the case.
