Three injured in Knox County crash on icy road

Driver, 17-year-old girl, baby taken to area hospital

Thick ice across Hwy. 1232 south of the intersection with Hwy. 233 caused a pair of car crashes early Friday night.

It all started when 20-year-old Joseph Sain, of Gray, was traveling south on Hwy. 1232 in a four-door Dodge Intrepid.

Sain said when he hit the ice, he started to slide out of control.

“I tried to aim it straight so I wouldn’t get injured,” Sain said.

He was not injured in the crash but ended up driver’s-side down in the ditch.

After getting himself out of the vehicle, Sain  contacted a towing company for a truck to pull his vehicle from the ditch.

When Dozier’s Wrecker Service arrived, the driver, James Dozier, also of Gray, prepared to remove Sain’s vehicle from the ditch.

That’s when, Sain said, another car rolled onto the ice packed on the roadway.

That vehicle, driven by Dozier’s 17-year-old son, slammed into the back of Dozier’s wrecker.

“My son was coming out here to help me with this car,” Dozier said. “He just slid on that ice.”

Also in his son’s vehicle was a 17-year-old female passenger and his 1-month-old grandchild.

“They’re all ok,” Dozier said. “They are just getting checked out.”

Knox County EMS transported the three to the hospital. Their official conditions were not known at press time.

Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Townsley said no charges are expected to be filed in this pair of crashes.

Other Knox County Sheriff’s Department deputies also assisted at the scene.
