Park playground equipment and discussion of the possibility of a skate park topped the agenda at Monday’s Williamsburg Tourism meeting.
The tourism board approved the updating of the playground equipment in Cumberland Heights instead of purchasing new equipment.
“This saves us approximately $10,000,” Tourism Director Alvin Sharpe said.
Frankie Ball from the Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky gave a presentation to the board on the Fine Arts programs.
The board voted on and approved a commitment of $1,000 of support to the Fine Arts Association of Southeastern Kentucky.
Also approved was $100 to the Beat the Heat 1-Mile Walk/Run to help raise funds for the purchase of air conditioning units for local families in need. The event will be Friday, July 27 at 8 p.m. This event is sponsored by Christopher Chiropractic and the Whitley County Health Department, according to Sharpe.
The board also discussed future projects such as the skateboard park and walking trails, but no action was taken.
Final business concluded with the approval of the installation of tile in the lobby of the tourism center.
