Man tries to enter courthouse with drug
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said a man tried to enter the courthouse in Laurel County carrying cocaine on his person.
Phillip Hutton, 56, of Rough Creek Road in London, was attempting to enter the Laurel County Judicial Center 11 a.m. Monday.
But he never made it past the security checkpoint.
Court Bailiff Andrew Lawson and Court Security Officer Donald Banks allegedly found the suspected cocaine on Hutton at the security entrance.
Hutton now faces a charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense.
He remains jailed at the Laurel County Correctional Center and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Driver hanging out of car arrested for DUI
A report of an intoxicated man parked at a service station brought the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department to a store on U.S. 25E south of London Sunday.
Sheriff John Root said Deputy Brett Reeves arrived at the scene just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning to find the driver of a silver Toyota Corolla hanging halfway out of his vehicle.
The driver was sitting behind the wheel of the Corolla.
Reeves investigated the scene further and gave the driver field sobriety tests, which were failed.
Reeves arrested Billie L. Gambrel, 48, of Dewitt.
He now faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and no insurance card.
He was jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Two jailed on assault charges
Two people landed in jail on domestic violence charges after fighting each other Sunday night.
Sheriff John Root said that Lisa A. Roark, 47, and Richard H. Lentz, 54, both of London, were jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center and face fourth-degree assault charges.
Lentz remained jailed under a $2,500 surety bond.
Root said Deputy Josh Scott responded to a domestic violence complaint on Maple School Grove Road at 9 p.m. Sunday.
Upon arrival it was discovered a domestic altercation had occurred between the man and woman at the residence, which allegedly was Roark and Lentz.
Roark was also charged on a Laurel District Court bench warrant for alcohol intoxication in a public place.
Two face charges after traffic stop
A routine traffic stop netted two arrests Saturday.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Deputy Josh Scott pulled over the driver on Hal Rogers Parkway three miles east of London at 4:18 p.m.
Arrested at the scene was 40-year-old Kristen Roark, of Essie, charged on a Clay County bench warrant for alcohol intoxication in a public place.
A passenger in the vehicle, Josh D. Roark, 33, of Roark, was also arrested after deputies located a concealed pistol on his person — with no conceal carry permit.
He faces one charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
Both were jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
