Assaulted mom upgraded to serious condition

By Adam S. Sulfridge / Staff Writer

Representatives of University of Kentucky’s Chandler Hospital say 20-year-old Samantha Miller has made some improvements and is now listed in serious condition. Yesterday, following a brutal beating by her boyfriend Kenneth Ingram Jr., Miller was airlifted from Baptist Regional Medical Center and was considered “critical.”

Miller’s neighbor, Glenna Woods, said Miller told her Ingram beat her with a stick, and Whitley County Sheriff Lawrence Hodge could be seen inspecting a large, stick-like object outside Miller’s residence along Ky. Hwy 779 near Rockholds. Miller reportedly suffered two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken jaw, and had a large laceration above her left eye, among other injuries.

When Miller reached her neighbor’s house to ask for help, Woods said Miller repeatedly said, “get the babies” and “don’t let him hit me anymore.” Miller’s two children, said to be of no relation to Ingram, were in the home at the time of the assault.

Ingram left the residence and rode to his parent’s home, where police say he committed suicide.

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
