Woman allegedly on drugs crashes into school bus

Times-Tribune Staff Report

A London woman who reportedly collided with the rear of a Laurel County school bus carrying 53 North Laurel High students was jailed Tuesday morning.

According to the Laurel Detention Center’s booking office, Lisa Johnson, 40, of London, was charged with second- degree wanton endangerment, driving under the influence of drugs and possessing methamphetamine.

Mike Broughton, assistant transportation director for the Laurel school system, said the incident happened about 7:50 a.m.

He explained that just before the minor collision, one of the bus drivers in the area of the intersection of KY 30 and the Hal Rogers Parkway reported an erratic driver running off the edge of KY 30. Moments later another bus stopped at the intersection on its way from Hazel Green Elementary School to North Laurel High, was struck in the rear by an automobile.

The bus was driven by Pat Krueger. Broughton said the bus sustained very minor damage.

Two of the students were taken to St. Joseph hospital in London with neck complaints, he said.

Officer Jeremy Shell of the London police department worked the incident but no report was available.
