Times-Tribune Staff Report

An Owingsville woman and a Florida man were charged Wednesday afternoon with various traffic and drug violations in Knox County.

On U.S. 25E, Kentucky State Police Trooper Jay Sowders stopped a blue 1993 Saturn after getting complaints that the vehicle seemed to be operated by an impaired driver.

Just after noon, according to a KSP report, Sowders spotted the vehicle northbound and stopped it in Barbourville.

A search of the Saturn netted 290 oxycodone and 64 Xanax tablets.

Brittany Sowers, 24, was charged with driving under the influence, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.

Ricky Williams, 40, of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., was charged with first-degree trafficking and third-degree trafficking.

Both were taken to the Knox County jail and the case continues to be under Sowders’ investigation.
