The water in a ditch located across from a Corbin gas station that closed Tuesday due to a gasoline leak will be tested for possible contamination.

The water testing was recommended by Tanknology, a company that conducts precision testing on underground storage tank systems.

Tanknology searched for the source of a gasoline leak that happened Tuesday at the Circle K Station located at the intersection of Cumberland Falls Road and KY 727, according to Ricki Gardenhire, information officer for the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet.

The search failed to uncover the source of the leak, Gardenhire said.

Gardenhire said the case will remain in its emergency phase as water is monitored.

Emergency responders were called to the station Tuesday after a store employee reported the gasoline leak. Corbin police were told the leak was so bad at one point that it left standing puddles of gasoline near the pumps.

It is believed the gasoline flowed into a drain that fed into a ditch located across KY 727 from the station.

The store resumed fuel sales about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Gardenhire said.
