University of the Cumberlands has been approved for a $100,000 grant from the Charles E. Schell Foundation through Fifth Third Bank as trustee.
The grant will be paid over a period of four years and is to be used as interest-free student loans.
Students who are awarded this grant must be citizens of Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia or adjoining states with parents of moderate means who are citizens of such states; between the ages of 18 and 25; “loyal to the United States and its institutions, including the Army, Navy and Air Force; honest, upright, intelligent, and of practical appearance; and maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.”
“Our young people are grateful for the opportunities they receive to earn a college education, and they know that these opportunities are possible because of friends like Mr. Schell who demonstrated his caring concern for others by the sharing of his resources,” said Cumberlands President Jim Taylor.
Taylor thanked Schell for remembering Cumberlands in his will and for “all he has done for our college and the young people we serve.”
