String those lights, hang that holly and toss the tinsel, downtown Corbin businesses.
Corbin Main Street Manager Sharae Myers is taking registrations for the annual downtown Christmas decorating contest in which downtown businesses can vie for bragging rights as well as one of three prizes.
It is the second year for the window and exterior building decorating contest sponsored by Main Street, Myers said.
To participate, businesses can register through Thursday, Dec. 3, by calling Myers at 215-0127 or e-mailing her at mainstreet@corbin-ky.gov.
First prize is full page ads in both The Times-Tribune and the News Journal as well as $500 in radio advertising. Second prize is $250 in radio advertising and third prize is a signed copy of the book “America from 500 Feet” by Bill Fortney.

Man died of self-inflicted wound
A 63-year-old Whitley County man, found dead Wednesday after a three-day search, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley.

About 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Mark Tidwell, of Barbourville slid on wet pavement, went off KY 11 and into Disappointment Creek, according to Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy Chad Wagner.
