LONDON (AP) — A former Ohio doctor has pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring to distribute methadone in eastern Kentucky.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that 64-year-old Lloyd Stanley Naramore, a former osteopath in Cincinnati, entered the plea Monday in federal court in London.

The newspaper reports that Naramore is the final defendant out of more than 20 who pleaded guilty in the pill smuggling case.

Capt. Kevin Payne, commander of the state police Special Investigations/Drug Enforcement unit for the eastern half of the state, told the Herald-Leader that it was the first case in which police were able to track pills sold illegally in Kentucky to a doctor writing prescriptions in another state.

Police have said that an increasing number of people are getting prescriptions in other states to avoid scrutiny by Kentucky’s electronic prescription-monitoring system.
