Knox Sheriff, deputies score meth triple play

Knox Sheriff John Pickard and his deputies scored a triple methamphetamine bust just before Thanksgiving.

The arrests were part of an extensive six-month investigation into methamphetamine manufacturing, said Pickard.

He reported Tuesday that on Nov. 23 he and Deputy Roy Gambrel, after getting a tip, searched Johnson Hollow near Gray and found the remains of what appeared to be an abandoned meth lab. Also found were several pieces of drug-use paraphernalia.

The next day Pickard and deputies Harold Mays, Gary Bays and John Whitehead visited a home on KY 830 to find a suspected meth lab.

According to Pickard, he got consent from the residents to search the home.

There they found, Pickard reported, “numerous items associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.”

Those items, including drug paraphernalia, were taken as evidence. Photographs were also made at the scene for evidence.

The investigation continues and charges are pending, Pickard said.

On Thanksgiving Day, Ralph “Buck” Jones and Jeffrey Tritt were arrested after Deputy Whitehead spotted a vehicle on the side of Sled Road and found meth, pills and other drug paraphernalia under its hood.

Pickard, Deputy Gambrel and Chad Wagner assisted in the arrest and lodging of Jones, of Sled Road, and Tritt, of Flat Lick.
