The court-ordered auction of a Williamsburg home co-owned by former Kentucky Transportation Cabinet secretary and former Williamsburg mayor Charles W. (Bill) Nighbert was cancelled.
The cancellation was announced on the Whitley County Courthouse steps Monday prior to the start of auctions for other seized properties.
On Friday, the attorney for First State Financial requested the cancellation of the foreclosure auction for the house owned by Bill Nighbert and Susan K. Nighbert, according to Sandra Reeves, who was appointed special master commissioner for the case.
The public auction of the house at 460 Forest Ave. was scheduled following a May Whitley Circuit Court judgement against the Nighberts that totaled about $283,779, according to court documents.
The auction was to come about a month before a scheduled trial for Bill Nighbert, who is named in an eight-count federal indictment along with Leonard V. Lawson and Brian R. Billings in an alleged bid-rigging scheme.
